So, this semester kicked my tail. My schedule was off the meter and my classes were wonderfully demanding, but I missed this blog.
This is where I write all of the random thoughts I collect in class… and after a semester like this one, I’ve got tons!!
All I really want to say today is, I’m going to have to start thinking differently about Eph. 5:22-25, and here’s why. I had to write a paper about sexism in Black churches in the 12st century. (Side note: It was due by 8a this morning and I emailed it to my professor around midnight after spending more than 12 hours on the lower level of Woodruff Library to get it done. YAY!) In this paper I look at some of the way sexism appears in the church. I talked about sermons that condition women to be subservient to men and I even mentioned Eph. 5:22 which tells women to submit to their husbands as the church submitted to Christ. I argued there was no equal directive for the husbands, as they are told to love their wives as Christ loved the church. I felt good about that when I wrote it, but a random thought just popped into my head, 14 hours after I submitted my epic work — Christ DIED for the church because he loved the church so much. So I’m wondering if any men read that 25th verse as literally as they read the 22nd verse? (That will preach, if I must say so myself!) Just a thought….
And I’m back!
